NORTHVILLE, Mich. — Mill Race Village, the historic district tucked off Griswold Street in Northville, is trying something new this Saturday, Oct. 17: its first Fall Lantern Festival.

The event at 215 Griswold St. runs from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Daytime plans include carving pumpkins, crafts and demonstrations from the Victorian era, live music, local makers and fall snacks.

After sunset the village is lit by lanterns and hundreds of jack-o’-lanterns, and storytellers in costume share ghost stories. The event page says online registration has closed and tickets bought online cannot be refunded. The Northville Historical Society, which runs the village, is also taking donations.

The festival is one stop on the city’s packed October in the ‘Ville calendar. On Sunday, First Presbyterian Church of Northville hosts a Boo Bash from 2 to 4 p.m.

Later in the week, the Northville Community Center holds a Day of the Dead event called Alive in Spirit on Oct. 22 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and Halloween bingo on the afternoon of Oct. 23. The same morning, the Northville District Library offers a Mini Monster Mash for little ones. Trick-or-treating across the city is set for Oct. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m.
