NORTHVILLE, Mich. — The Northville girls golf team heads into this week as the favorite to win a third state title in a row, after spending the whole season ranked atop the state in Division 1.
The Division 1 finals are set for Friday, Oct. 16, and Saturday, Oct. 17, at Bedford Valley in Battle Creek. Northville, the defending Division 1 champion, punched its ticket by winning its regional at nearby Salem Hills.
The Mustangs posted a team score of 290 at that regional, finishing 46 strokes better than runner-up Brighton, with four Northville golfers placing among the six best in the field.
Junior Cam Baker led the way with a 69, and junior McKenzie Stevens was one stroke back with a 70. That gives Northville two of the lowest rounds in the region as it heads west for the two-day final.
Macomb Dakota is the other team viewed as a top contender for the Division 1 crown. Novi also qualified for the state finals out of the same regional.
