One of the standout moments of the tournament occurred when defending state champion Northville faced Bay City Western in a rematch of their previous year’s D1 semifinal. In a closely contested game, Northville managed to secure a dramatic walk-off victory with a final score of 3-2. This victory reinforces Northville’s reputation as a strong contender in high school baseball.

Ranked 11th in the state, Howell also demonstrated their prowess with a commanding win over Swartz Creek. Howell’s performance was notable for a decisive 10-0 shutout, emphasizing their strong pitching and offensive capabilities during the tournament.

Among the noteworthy performances, Mack Hart, a weekend sports anchor and reporter, scored the winning run for the Mustangs, highlighting the blend of talent and dedication within the tournament. His contribution played a significant role in the Mustangs’ success.

In the tournament, Flint Powers Catholic had a strong showing with multiple wins against Bay City Central. The team won both of their games with scores of 14-8 and 4-3, showcasing their skill and teamwork. Nathan Gebhardt led the offense in the first game, achieving two hits and five RBIs. Another key player, Mateo Evans, contributed significantly with three hits, including two doubles and three RBIs in the same matchup.

Burton Bendle also made waves during the tournament with a doubleheader against Flint Southwestern. Player Landon Mattis shone in the doubleheader with six stolen bases, demonstrating speed and strategy on the bases.

Flushing secured victories against Flint Kearsley with scores of 4-1 and 11-0, benefitting from solid pitching that limited their opponents’ scoring opportunities.

Goodrich clinched the Flint Metro League Stars division by achieving a pair of hard-fought wins over Owosso, including a tight 1-0 victory in the first game, demonstrating their ability to perform under pressure.

The matchup between Grand Blanc and Lapeer saw Grand Blanc take an early advantage with an 8-0 victory in the first game. However, Lapeer rallied back in the second game to pull off a 6-5 win, highlighted by a go-ahead run scored on a balk, showcasing the unpredictable nature of high school sports.

Swartz Creek secured the Flint Metro League Stripes division title for the first time since 1985 by winning both of their games against Fenton. This victory signifies a milestone achievement for the school’s baseball program, celebrating long-awaited success.
