Southfield Man Arrested After Axe-Wielding Bank Robbery Leaves Employee Hospitalized

A 55-year-old man from Southfield has been arrested following a violent bank robbery that left a female employee hospitalized. The incident unfolded around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at a PNC Bank located near the intersection of 12 Mile and Franklin roads.

According to authorities, the suspect entered the bank armed with an axe and demanded cash from bank staff. After receiving an undisclosed amount of money, he assaulted a female bank employee by striking her in the head with the axe. The injured employee was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, where she is expected to survive her injuries.

Police responded swiftly to the incident and were able to track down the suspect to the area of Greenfield and Joy roads in Detroit. He was apprehended around 1:30 p.m., approximately one hour after the robbery. No other injuries were reported as a result of the violent act.

The Southfield Police Department is actively investigating the incident and encourages anyone with information to come forward. They can contact the police department directly or reach out to Crime Stoppers of Michigan. Further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the attack have not yet been disclosed by authorities.

A press conference is set to be conducted by Police Chief Elvin Barren after a charging decision is made by the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office. The bank will remain closed for the remainder of the day as a precaution following the traumatic event.

This bank robbery follows a concerning trend, as multiple bank robberies have been reported in the Southfield area this year. The swift actions of law enforcement have resulted in timely arrests, but the community remains on alert amid rising crime in the region.
