Summertime in Novi, Michigan is about to close out with a bang as the 2024 Michigan State Fair arrives this weekend! Kicking off on Thursday and running through Monday (August 29 – September 2), the fair is packed with attractions. We’re talking about a new farmer’s market, a circus and a beer festival among other things. There’s no shortage of entertainment during the event’s 11-hour days, and here’s the inside scoop on what to expect.
The fair takes center stage at the Suburban Collection Showcase at 46100 Grand River Ave. Whether you’re a local or making the trip from out of town, make sure you pencil in these impeccable highlights:
First up, you’ve got the annual Shrine Circus. This classic event hosts four daily performances from Thursday to Sunday, and three on Monday. It’s a fair favorite, so be sure to secure your spot!
Next on the list is the brand-new Flagstar Farmer’s Market. This attraction runs from Thursday to Sunday and presents various farmers from across Michigan showcasing their produce, handmade goodies and local delicacies. Talk about indulging in some homegrown goodness!
If you fancy yourself a baker, roll up your sleeves for the mouthwatering Adult and Youth Cookie Contest on Saturday, August 31, at 11 a.m. That’s not the end of the baking fun, as a King Arthur Flour Contest for Adult Cakes and Youth Cupcakes follows on Sunday, September 1, at 2 p.m.
The fair will also be hosting daily Blood Drives coordinated by the Versiti Blood Center of Michigan. Gift cards and free fair admission await those who are 17 years and above (or 16 with parental consent) and weigh at least 110 pounds (or 120 for girls 18 and under).
For craft beer lovers, the Friday Night Flights Beer Festival will thrill on Friday, August 30, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. This 21 and over event provides an all-inclusive entry to the fair, admission to the special event, and ten drink tickets.
Entry tickets for the fair can be availed in advance or at the gate for $10, with children aged two and under entering for free. If you’re in for the complete package, considering an Ultimate Admission ticket might be a good bet. For $42, it includes fair admission, unlimited carnival rides, and circus performances!
So, come along and end this summer in grand style at the 2024 Michigan State Fair. With heaps of activities for everyone, it promises to be the best way to say hello to September!
