NORTHVILLE, Mich. — The Northville High School football team has climbed into both statewide Super 25 rankings, and the Mustangs get a chance to prove it belongs there Friday night in the biggest regular-season test left on their schedule.
Beating Salem pushed the Mustangs to 7-1. They are ranked 22nd in one of the two statewide top-25 lists and 23rd in the other, having moved up two spots from 25th in the second poll.
The finale is a road trip to Howell, an 8-0 team that sits fourth in one statewide poll and fifth in the other. Northville has not lost since Week 6, when Dearborn Fordson held on for a 14-10 win, and has since beaten Belleville and Salem.
Friday is also the last chance for every Michigan team to improve its playoff seeding or move inside the top 32 in its division. The state association reveals pairings during a 5 p.m. selection show on Sunday, Oct. 25.
District semifinals follow on Oct. 30 and 31, and the state title games are set for Nov. 27 and 28 at Ford Field in Detroit. Neighboring Detroit Catholic Central, the reigning Division 1 champion, remains No. 1 in both polls at 8-0.
