NORTHVILLE, Mich. — Northville opens the state football playoffs at home Friday night, when the Mustangs welcome Brownstown Woodhaven for a Division 1 district semifinal set for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
Both programs come in at 7-2. The pairings released by the state association slot the game in Region 3, District 2, with Northville carrying a 74.000 playoff-point average to 66.000 for Woodhaven. The higher average earned the Mustangs the home field.
Northville is trying to shake off a regular-season finale it lost to Howell, 35-22, even though it gained 176 more yards than the Highlanders. Jackson DeFore led the way in that game with 70 rushing yards and a touchdown, plus 47 yards as a receiver.
Woodhaven arrives scoring 34.7 points a game and fresh off a 40-24 win over Taylor. Ca’Ron Smith ran for 81 yards and a score on nine carries in that game, Cam’Renn Miller added 66 yards and a touchdown, and the Warriors defense came away with three interceptions.
The other District 2 semifinal sends Dearborn, 5-4, to unbeaten Saline. Those two winners square off for the district title on Nov. 6 or 7, with regional finals a week after that on Nov. 13-14. Playoff hosts in the early rounds go to the team with the higher average, no matter how far apart the schools are.
