NORTHVILLE, Mich. — Voters in Northville, Mich., head to the polls Tuesday, Nov. 3, with several local tax questions on the ballot alongside the statewide proposals and races.
The closest to home is a renewal for Schoolcraft College. The college district covers the Northville, Plymouth-Canton, Livonia, Clarenceville and Garden City public school districts plus a small slice of the Novi district. The proposal would keep the operating levy at 2.27 mills for another ten years, the rate first approved by voters in 1986, so it is not a new tax. The college estimates that a property with a market value of $150,000 pays about $170 a year toward Schoolcraft.
Because the city sits in both Wayne and Oakland counties, residents will see their own county version of two other questions. One renews and restores the Detroit Zoo levy at 0.10 mill for 2028 through 2037. The other would create a new 0.2 mill tax for ten years for public history museums in the two counties, among them the Detroit Historical Museum and the Dossin Great Lakes Museum.
Statewide, voters will also decide whether delegates should meet in a 2027 convention to rewrite the Michigan Constitution.
Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voters can check their precinct with their city clerk or through the Michigan Voter Information Center. Northville City Hall is at 215 W. Main St. Schoolcraft College is based in nearby Livonia, about 15 miles away.
