DETROIT, Mich. — The Detroit Red Wings lost 2-1 to the Vegas Golden Knights at Little Caesars Arena on Thursday when a late third-period goal decided it.
Anton Johansson put Detroit ahead early in the third off a carom from Carter Mazur. Braeden Bowman answered for Vegas a couple of minutes later, and Trevor Connelly snapped the deadlock with 1:42 left after a Jack Eichel feed.
Carter Hart stopped 25 shots for Vegas. Daniil Tarasov made 32 saves for the Red Wings, who drop to 7-7-3 after a second straight loss and three defeats in their last four. Vegas improved to 11-5-2 with a second win in a row on its road trip.
Detroit next visits Colorado on Saturday in the middle of a stretch with only one home date. Coach Todd McLellan said the Wings largely held a Stanley Cup contender in check but paid for one late mistake that ended in the net.
