New Windsor, NY – Sharon L. Palentino, a cherished matriarch of the New Windsor community, passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at the age of 72, surrounded by her loved ones. Known for her warm heart and welcoming spirit, Sharon was a pivotal figure in her family and community.

Born on December 21, 1952, in Newburgh, NY, Sharon was the daughter of the late Stanley W. and Shirley M. (Harris) Sledzianowski, Sr. Family was the cornerstone of her life, and she created many cherished memories through her famous Christmas Eve parties and holiday traditions, which became pivotal moments for her family and friends.

Sharon’s spirit of togetherness extended beyond family gatherings. She had a passion for hosting gatherings that fostered love and connection, and friends and family alike looked forward to celebrating special occasions with her. Her warmth and generous nature made her a beloved member of her community.

Over the years, Sharon engaged in various activities that brought her joy. She was an avid reader who enjoyed extensive conversations on a range of topics. Summers were often spent tending to her garden, where she found peace and fulfillment. Additionally, Sharon looked forward to yearly beach trips, further reflecting her love of family and leisure.

Professionally, Sharon dedicated her recent years to the Newburgh Free Academy, North Campus, where she worked as a food handler. She enjoyed the camaraderie with her coworkers and the interactions with students, demonstrating her ability to connect with people from all walks of life.

Sharon is survived by her beloved husband, Gus Palentino, with whom she shared over 50 years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with love and family. Sharon is also survived by her two daughters, Melisa Palentino and her husband Majid Qazi of Northville, MI, and Danielle Palentino-Dederick and her husband Shawn Dederick of Tacoma, WA. Their son, Gus Palentino, Jr., resides in Fairport, NY. Additionally, she is survived by her brothers Stanley Sledzianowski, Jr. and his wife Sally of Gilbert, AZ, Scott Sledzianowski and his wife Renee of Montgomery, NY, sisters Susan Lockowitz and her husband Bruce of Middletown, NY, and Shelly Vidi and her husband Russell of Walden, NY. Sharon was also the proud grandmother of three grandchildren: Musab, Zayd, and Maya. Her family tree extends to many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Sharon was predeceased by her brother Stephen Sledzianowski, with his wife Susan surviving him in Bloomingburg, NY. The vibrant legacy Sharon leaves behind will continue to resonate through her family and friends.

A private cremation has already taken place at Cedar Hill crematory. Plans for a Celebration of Life in honor of Sharon L. Palentino will be announced at a later date, providing an opportunity for her family and friends to gather and remember the remarkable woman who touched the lives of so many.
