Canton, MI – The newly renovated Barchester Park officially reopened to the public on Tuesday, featuring a range of improved amenities aimed at enhancing recreational options for local residents. Spanning 10 acres, Barchester Park is located along Barchester Road near the intersections of Morton Taylor and Hanford Roads.

The renovations include newly installed playground equipment designed to accommodate children of all abilities. Key features of the playground now include a sensory climbing dome equipped with bells, an arch swing, a sensory wave seat, and a sensory ring with a buzz reactor game. The play area has been expanded to include accessible ramps, two picnic tables, and two Red Horse Chestnut trees, providing families with more comfortable spaces to relax and enjoy the outdoors.

In addition to the enhanced playground, the park features newly repaired sidewalks that improve accessibility around the playground. The Canton Township has also planned further sidewalk repairs along Barchester Road for later this year. Visitors can enjoy paved and natural trails that are suitable for walking, jogging, or biking, promoting active lifestyles within the community.

Funding for the renovation project was secured in part through a Community Development Block Grant, highlighting the community’s investment in local infrastructure and recreational spaces. The enhancements to Barchester Park reflect the city’s commitment to fostering inclusive environments while addressing the recreational needs identified by community feedback.

The reopening of Barchester Park is part of a broader revitalization effort in the surrounding Cherry Hill Village. Plans for this area include the construction of a new 20,000 square-foot commercial building, along with multi-story, multi-use complexes that will house restaurants and retail spaces. Additionally, new public amenities in Cherry Hill Village will include a town square with scenic walking paths, water features, and a farmers market pavilion, which aim to create a vibrant downtown atmosphere for residents and visitors.

Alongside the park renovations and Cherry Hill Village developments, work is ongoing at the Canton Township Community Center. These renovations are focused on creating a more inviting space for residents and community organizations, funded through the American Rescue Plan Act.

In other community news, a renewal levy for road operations will appear on the Canton Township election ballot on May 6. If approved, the levy is expected to generate approximately $892,000 annually, which will be allocated for street resurfacing projects throughout the township.

As residents gear up for the spring season, the residential yard waste site in Canton Township is also set to reopen on April 1, providing extended hours for community utilization.

The extensive renovations at Barchester Park and the ongoing developments in Cherry Hill Village illustrate Canton officials’ dedication to enhancing the quality of life for its residents through improved recreational spaces and community-focused infrastructure.
