New Nino Salvaggio International Marketplace to Open in 2025

A groundbreaking event for the new Nino Salvaggio International Marketplace took place on November 7, marking a significant addition to Schoolcraft College’s campus. Scheduled to open in late 2025, the marketplace will be located near the Vistatech Center along Haggerty Road, occupying 48,100 square feet. The marketplace will be situated in the north commuter lot of the college campus, further integrating community and educational resources.

Nino Salvaggio International Marketplace, a family-owned business established in 1979, operates several locations across Michigan, including Bloomfield Township, Clinton Township, St. Clair Shores, and Troy. Leadership has transitioned to the next generation, with Leo Salvaggio and siblings Andrea and Frank Nicolella overseeing operations.

Community College Guarantee Launching Fall 2024

As part of efforts to increase accessibility to education, the Michigan School Aid Budget will introduce a tuition-free “community college guarantee” program starting in fall 2024. This initiative will benefit recent high school graduates, allowing them to attend community colleges without the burden of tuition fees. Students eligible for this guarantee can renew their scholarships for up to three years at a community college or tribal college, with no income requirements applying.

The guarantee also includes provisions for reimbursement of previously paid tuition for eligible students, making higher education more attainable. Incoming freshman Alivia Jaros expressed enthusiasm for this new opportunity, recognizing its potential to alleviate financial challenges associated with pursuing further education.

Schoolcraft College’s National Recognition

Recently, Schoolcraft College received national recognition, being ranked as the sixth-best community college in the United States for value according to College Values. As the highest-rated two-year college in Michigan on this national list, Schoolcraft College surpasses Muskegon Community College, which ranked 27th.
