A year later, the couple started a ballet company but the business failed quickly. Soon after the failed business venture, Ashley fell pregnant with their first child, marking the onset of a deteriorating relationship.

Doug Benefield’s daughter, Eva praised the verdict saying, “After four years of waiting, my dad got the justice that he deserves.”
Post-Trial Developments
Following the verdict, the presiding judge immediately revoked Ashley Benefield’s $100,000 bond and transferred her to the custody of the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office. A later date will see her in court once more for a sentencing hearing. Should she receive the harshest consequence for her crime, Benefield could be facing a maximum of 15 years in prison as per Florida law, given her crime of manslaughter.
