Local Sex Offender Indicted on Child Pornography Charges in Livonia
In Livonia, a registered sex offender has been indicted on allegations of receiving and possessing child pornography, according to documents from a federal court. The offender, identified as Brett David Goodreau, 43, was charged with a count of both reception and possession of child pornography by a grand jury in July.
If convicted, Goodreau is facing a prison term ranging from 15 to 40 years for each charge. This stern punishment is a result of his prior criminal record. There was no comment made by his attorney when reached yesterday.
An investigation into Goodreau’s behavior started after a suspect detained in Bakersfield, California, made a claim that he had previously sent the Livonia man child pornography videos. An inspection of the suspect’s cell phone uncovered chats including videos of child pornography between Goodreau and himself. Goodreau had allegedly asked the suspect for any similar videos to be sent his way.
In March, federal law enforcement from Detroit executed a search warrant at Goodreau’s home, leading to the confiscation of numerous electronic devices. A subsequent search of his cell phone yielded disturbing results:25 images and 195 videos of child pornography.
During a post-raid interview, Goodreau admitted to maintaining an online account with a notorious website known to host child pornography files. Agents were granted permission to log in to his account, leading to the discovery of an alarming amount of illicit content – around 1,690 images and 107 videos of child pornography.
The case against Goodreau was further strengthened after agents unearthed conversations between Goodreau and an unidentified individual, where they exchanged child pornography.
Public records reveal that Goodreau is a sex offender registered in Michigan who was previously convicted in 2003 for fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct. After a concerned mother reported unusual behavior around her child, Goodreau was arrested by Michigan State Police. Following his guilty plea, he was imprisoned for nine months and underwent three years of probation. Upon the recent indictment, he has been held in custody since the 17th of July.
