Gold Jewelry Worth $20,000 Swiped from a Novi Store, Captured on Camera
In a shocking incident, a Novi store fell victim to a well-orchestrated heist. A group of slick thieves walked away with a hefty score of $20,000 worth of gold jewelry. Although the theft was captured on camera, the thieves managed to successfully pull off the scheme at the Gold Buy and Jewelry located on Grand River.
“They didn’t look like criminals. They were well dressed and had their scheme well-cooked,” lamented Joe Haddad, owner of the store. According to him, the alleged robbers came in asking to see items on the bottom shelf and cleverly blocking his employees’ view.
About 3 p.m. on Saturday, a couple entered the store and engaged the clerk in conversation. Not long after, three more individuals walked in. “Five people here at once, it was strategically planned,” shared Haddad, describing their smartly planned strategy.
While the one and only store employee was kept busy, another member of the team privately slipped into action. The thief opened the display case and took away a full tray of diamond and gold rings, with an estimated total value of about $20,000.
Haddad went on to describe that before anyone even realized what had happened, the criminals had made their exit. Apparently, the store owner was left puzzled when one of the men nonchalantly asked about his ring size, only to have his attention diverted while the group swiftly exited the store. The whole incident was wrapped up in mere 10 minutes.
It wasn’t until later in the day when they were closing up that they discovered the empty tray. “The realization hit us when we spotted the empty tray. Oh my God, they took the tray,” vented Haddad.
The store owner insisted these thieves knew what they were doing – well-dressed, with an elaborate plan and leaving no trace behind. After leaving the store, they coolly walked away. As of now, it is not known whether they had a vehicle parked nearby.
The local police have embarked on an investigation to nab the criminals. If anyone identifies the suspects in the surveillance tape, they are encouraged to give the local police a call. Let’s all come together to ensure the culprits face the consequences of their action.
