St. Ignace Man Found Dead After Going Missing on Halloween

ST. IGNACE – A 59-year-old man from Westland has been found dead in the Upper Peninsula after going missing on Halloween night. Michigan State Police reported that the man walked away from a residence he was staying at in Brevort Township, located about 20 miles northwest of St. Ignace around 6:45 p.m. on October 31.

Authorities learned that the man had dementia, which raised concerns about his well-being. A major search operation kicked off to locate him, involving State Police canine units, police helicopters, and help from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.

Despite these extensive search efforts, the man was found dead the following day, November 1. MSP has not disclosed the specific location where he was found, but they are working to gather more information about the circumstances surrounding his death.

At this time, the man’s identity has not been released, and officials have stated that they do not suspect any foul play was involved in his passing. The investigation into the cause of death is ongoing.

The reasons for the man being up North remain unclear, and this tragedy has raised questions within the community about the challenges faced by individuals with conditions like dementia.
