Hey folks in Northville, Michigan, gear up for a thrilling nocturnal experience! The Outdoor Adventure Center (OAC) and DNR Explorer Program staff are hosting a nighttime bat hike at the exquisite Maybury State Park. Bound to be a treat for adventure junkies and nature lovers alike, this bat hike is scheduled from 7:30-9:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22.
To be a part of this exciting expedition, a Recreation Passport is indispensable for park entry. Although the activity is free of charge, all participants are expected to register well in advance. Registration ends at 11 p.m. sharp on Wednesday, Aug. 14. It’s recommended for those aged 8 years and above; make sure to come prepared for outdoor activities on uneven, natural trails. The program will take place barring inclement weather.
If you’ve always been intrigued by the nightlife of creatures often misunderstood, this one’s for you. This program offers an in-depth exploration of bat biology, their habitats, and the ecosystem. It is part of OAC’s larger “more ways to get outside” series. The OAC, located on Detroit’s riverfront in the historic Globe Building, is the DNR’s initiative to “bring up north, downtown.”
The Maybury State Park sprawls across nearly 1,000 acres, featuring wide expanses of gently rolling terrain, open meadows, mature forests, a variety of wildlife, and colorful wildflowers. It’s a park that offers various outdoor recreation opportunities, making it an adventurous land for nature enthusiasts.
Just a quick heads-up, if you decide to participate in this nocturnal adventure, be ready to traverse through the natural and uneven trails of the park, perhaps hand-in-hand with the creature of the night, the bat!
Keep exploring, keep adventuring!
