Restaurant Inspections Reveal Unsettling Conditions in Farmington Hills
In the city of Farmington Hills, recent restaurant inspections have shed light on some worrisome violations. The offenders? Spoiled food items and small flies, among other concerns. Although many of these violations have been rectified, the inspection reports provide a small window into the past conditions of these establishments.
Interested folks can peek into these reports by visiting the Oakland County Health Department’s website.
Pars Restaurant, 30005 Orchard Lake Road
The traditional fare at Pars Restaurant encountered a spot of trouble during a routine inspection on May 23. The inspector encountered raw lamb, salmon, and beef kebabs stored above ready-to-eat food items, making room for potential cross-contamination. Food items far beyond their expiration dates, moldy pickle containers, and visibly spoiled vegetables were other standout violations.
Additional violations included containers stored next to chemical products, a lack of a suitable date-marking system, dented cans, and the improper storing of single-use gloves. The build-up of mold-like growth in the walk-in cooler, the heavy soiling of the hood ventilation filters, and plumbing leaks further contributed to the restaurant’s rap sheet.
Craft Brew City, 27843 Orchard Lake Road
Next in line, Craft Brew City. The establishment fell short during an inspection on May 2, most notably for improper food storage practices. Several food items, including heavy cream sauce, were kept beyond their due date. A whisk was found in an unlikely place – the handwashing sink basin, and the set food thermometer registered inaccurate readings.
The presence of small flies in the bar area, improper storage of canned goods, and unmarked in-house preparations complemented the list of violations. It’s noteworthy that despite these missteps, Craft Brew City had pest control interventions performed by Premier Pest Control.
Damas Syrian Cuisine, 28841 Orchard Lake Road & India Flavors, 29205 Orchard Lake Road
Inspection woes touched the kitchens of Damas Syrian Cuisine and India Flavors as well. Misplaced raw food items, inadequate sanitizer concentrations, improperly stored chemical containers, and food debris buildup were among the missteps noted in these establishments. India Flavors also faced a significant small-fly infestation, despite regular pest control services.
Mulligan’s Pub & Grub, 27406 W. Eight Mile
Finally, Mulligan’s Pub & Grub was another offender with an inconsistent date-marking system, poorly labeled food, and complicated storage of items in the walk-in cooler. The pub was also found to have a leaky ice bin at the bar, an unmarked chemical spray bottle, and an ice machine soiled with buildup. Similar to Craft Brew City, it also faced an issue of small flies in its bar area.
Remember folks, these are past reports, and do not necessarily represent the current conditions of the said establishments. Meanwhile, the inspections continue!
