In an historic event of epic proportions, Vice President Kamala Harris has been officially nominated as the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee. Securing her position at the top of the ticket after President Joe Biden stepped down, Harris is set to go against the 45th president and Republican nominee, Donald Trump, in November. The race between Harris and Trump has already heated up, with close predictions in several battleground states. Trump’s retaliation to Harris’ nomination included using racially charged rhetoric, echoing his past controversies. However, Harris, whose heritage includes both Black and South Asian elements, retaliated by slamming Trump’s remarks.
Facing Racial and Gender Bias
Since becoming the leading candidate for the Democrats, Harris has had to face an increase in racist and misogynistic attacks. Conservative voices, including Trump and GOP allies, have taken jabs at her position, labeling her as a “DEI candidate” in an attempt to undermine her achievements as a person of color and as a woman rising to a place of power and influence.
