Northville Community Mourns the Loss of Beloved Family Man and Wine Expert Lawrence “Lon” Connery

Northville, Michigan – Lawrence “Lon” Connery, a cherished member of the Northville community, passed away peacefully at the age of 78 on June 19, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. His demise marked the end of a life that was characterized by devotion to family, a passion for wine, and a resilient spirit.

Lon Connery is survived by his wife, Christine, to whom he was married for 57 years, and his three children: daughter Kimberly (Carl) Stieler, son Michael Connery, and daughter Meghan (Brian) Gorman. He leaves behind one beloved grandson, Luke, and numerous family members, including a brother-in-law, Steven (Debbie) Bacik, alongside several nieces and a nephew. His cousins included Pat Connery, Marcia Maus Bollo, Billy, and David Maus, all of whom he held dear.

Family Man and Community Pillar

Lon was known as the heart of his family, bringing joy to every gathering with his warm presence. He created countless memories with his loved ones in their home in Northville as well as at their vacation getaway in South Haven. Simple pleasures, such as sharing a glass of wine during picturesque sunsets, beach walks, and family dinners, defined his approach to life. His legacy continues to live through the bonds he cultivated with family and friends.

A Career in Wine

His professional journey began in the Food and Wine department at Marshall Fields in Chicago, where he developed a deep understanding of wine. After relocating to Michigan, Connery served as the Wine Buyer for J.L. Hudson Company, exhibiting his expertise in selecting fine wines. He later transitioned to the distributor side of the wine industry, gaining recognition as a respected wine educator. His enthusiasm for wine found avenues in both formal settings at Schoolcraft College and during casual family gatherings where he shared his knowledge.

Lon also established a tradition called “Thirsty Thursdays,” where he would invite friends and family to enjoy a special bottle of wine. This event became synonymous with good company and storytelling, illustrating his ability to create community around a shared passion.

Passion, Travels, and Hobbies

Beyond his professional achievements, Lon’s love for travel took him on numerous adventures, including visits to California vineyards and warm getaways in Arizona and Florida. His family also cherished fishing trips, where he fostered a love for the outdoors among his children and grandchildren.

A devoted fan of the Detroit Lions, Connery faced the trials of supporting the team with unwavering loyalty and optimism, even through challenging seasons. His zest for life was evident in every endeavor, especially in his courageous battle against pancreatic cancer, which he faced with remarkable grit.

Final Farewell

As the community mourns his loss, friends and family will honor his memory through contributions to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, reflecting Connery’s dedication to service and community. A visitation will take place on June 24, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Harry J. Will Funeral Home in Livonia, Michigan. Following this, a final viewing and prayer will be held on June 25, 2025, at 9:00 AM, with a funeral mass scheduled at St Kenneth Catholic Church at 10:00 AM.
