A South Lyon native and high school senior, Cameron Janson, has been doing great things in the dance world, making a name for himself and inspiring other young male dancers around the nation.
This summer, Janson managed to secure two national dance titles: Senior Dancer of the Year at the Tremaine Dance Convention & Competitions in Orlando and the Senior Outstanding Dancer at the New York City Dance Alliance hosted in Phoenix.
The young dancer’s journey began at the tender age of five. He revealed, “My sister was the one who was supposed to be dancing but when my mom signed her up, there was a deal that if you signed up your son, it was free.”
Janson didn’t just dip his toes into dance because of a deal. He remained in the dance world out of a deep love for the art. “I truly love the joy it gives me – an escape from the real world.”, he said.
However, as a male dancer, he had to overcome several obstacles. Janson faced bullying in school due to his passion for dance. Yet, he didn’t allow that to discourage him. “Being a male in dance, there is an element of bullying. But I’ve grown to not take others’ opinions to heart. It doesn’t identify me as a person,” he strongly remarked.
Overcoming these hurdles and pursuing his dreams, Janson is now a role model for many young dancers. He works alongside Tremaine Dance Conventions assisting and mentoring aspiring artists.
In addition to his achievements and mentorship, Cameron is also a brand ambassador for Tiger Friday, one of the top dancewear companies in the industry, making significant strides in shaping the future of male dancewear.
Janson’s journey can serve as an inspiration, emphasizing that passion and perseverance can pave the way to success in any field, even in arenas where one might encounter stereotypes and setbacks. As for Cameron’s future plans, he is excited about the many opportunities in front of him but one thing he is sure of – it will definitely be connected to dance.
