Scholes was observed battling the water currents before he submerged completely, all while other beachgoers tried fruitlessly to help him. “Several persons entered the water in an effort to assist the subject, however, by the time he was reached he had slipped under the surface,” the sheriff’s office disclosed.
Resplendent efforts by locals led to Scholes’ eventual recovery, albeit unconscious. They managed to locate him underwater, retrieve him, and transport him to shore where CPR was promptly initiated. Regrettably, the heroic rescue measures could not save the beloved principal. Scholes was pronounced deceased shortly after his arrival at Corewell Health Ludington Hospital.
