NORTHVILLE, Mich. — The Northville Mustangs carry an 8-2 record and a fresh playoff win into the biggest game of their season so far, a district championship trip to unbeaten Saline on Friday night.
Northville opened the MHSAA postseason by beating Woodhaven 28-19 on the night before Halloween. The Mustangs built a 21-0 cushion by halftime behind two long touchdown passes, then held on as the Warriors rallied late. A Northville interception with under 90 seconds left closed it out, and the Mustangs went four for four on extra points.
Head coach Brent Luplow said his team wanted to establish the run against Woodhaven and did, mixing power running with play-action shots downfield.
Next comes a much tougher test. The 10-0 Saline Hornets host Northville with the MHSAA district championship at stake. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at Hornet Stadium, 1300 Campus Parkway in Saline.
Saline plans a full Friday night setting for the district final, with its band, dance team and cheerleaders all on hand for the home crowd.
