HOWELL, Mich. — The Northville Mustangs head to Howell on Friday night, Oct. 23, to face the Howell Highlanders with the Kensington Lakes Activities Association football title on the line, and it will be the last championship game the league ever plays.
The conference is breaking up after 18 years because of realignment. A dozen of its schools are bound for the Southeastern Conference next school year, while Northville and Novi will join the Oakland Activities Association.
Howell won the Gold Division and enters at 8-0, 6-0 in league play, and the Highlanders are trying to win a third straight league crown. Northville took the Black Division and stands 7-1, 5-1, after playoff points broke a three-team tie that also involved Belleville and Dearborn Fordson.
History on the Howell field favors the visitors. Northville has won on each of its last two trips there, including a 17-7 victory in Week 2 a year ago that handed Howell its only regular-season loss. The Mustangs also showed a flair for the unexpected this fall, when two trick plays helped it stun Brighton 35-34 in Week 3.
