NORTHVILLE, Mich. — Northville High School’s football team is headed to a regional playoff game Friday at Detroit Cass Tech after beating previously unbeaten Saline 17-14 in a district championship at Hornet Stadium.
The Mustangs, an MHSAA Division 1 program based at 45700 Six Mile Road, scored two touchdowns and a field goal between Saline scores. Grayson Harris threw a touchdown pass to Jackson DeFore to tie the game at 7 early in the second quarter, and Alex Baird later kicked a 41-yard field goal for a 10-7 lead.
Danny O’Neil capped a long third-quarter drive with a short touchdown run that made it 17-7 after Northville had used 8 minutes and 19 seconds off the clock. Saline answered on a Case Campbell pass to Gabe Iadipaolo, cutting the deficit to 17-14 with 11:27 left in the fourth quarter. A late Saline field-goal try was blocked, and Northville converted a third-down throw to run out the clock.
The Hornets have no games left on their schedule. Northville will face Cass Tech on Friday in Detroit, a week after Cass Tech beat Fordson 28-14 in its district final. The district championship was the fewest points Saline had scored in a game this fall.
